Coaching Philosophy

Multisport training techniques are still evolving, and we are committed to staying at the front of that evolution. In addition to the specific elements of swimming, cycling, running, and nutrition training we believe that the psychology behind the training is just as important as the training itself.

In the words of that famous philosopher Yogi Berra Major League baseball player, coach, & manager (1925 - )

“Baseball (Triathlon) is 90% mental, the other half is physical.”

There are many examples of the importance of the psychology of triathlon including getting someone off the couch to get to a training session, being prepared for the attacks of self doubt that come on the lonely stretch’s of a Triathlon course, or helping someone visualize a big goal like completing a full or half Iron distance event. We treat the mental side as another discipline to be evaluated and trained. We seek to empower athletes to reach high and set and achieve their goals – whatever they may be.

Coach/Founder

I was inspired to complete a triathlon late in life as a mid-life crisis response to receiving an invitation to join the AARP (AARP is a nonprofit organization for people age 50 and over).  Completing a Triathlon had been on my unwritten bucket list and I joined a training group with Team In Training and completed my first event in the age 50-55 group. I was immediately hooked on the sport and like many other type “A” individuals who are attracted to the sport, I went all in. I have adopted the multisport lifestyle and one of the attractions of the sport to me is that athletes of all ages and skill levels from novice to full time professional can all train and compete together.

When I began coaching I found that much of the knowledge I had acquired in my 25+ years as a Financial Planner/Investment Adviser had direct application to coaching Triathletes. Over the years I have participated with many self development programs from organizations like Tony Robbins and Landmark Education and much of what they teach is about setting and achieving big goals and overcoming obstacles.

Over the last 4 years I have coached (or co-coached) over 170 athletes, from age 18 to 76, for the Team In Training program benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Our team participates in the Nations Triathlon to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and our team has raised over $750,000 to help find a cure for blood cancers.
